According to the SMM survey data, the operating rate of copper rod enterprises in April was 83.29%, up 23.89 percentage points month-on-month and 5.01 percentage points year-on-year. Among them, the operating rate of large enterprises was 84.74%, that of medium-sized enterprises was 52.00%, and that of small enterprises was 18.00%. Similar to the performance of the cable industry, the operating rate of copper rod enterprises rose sharply in April from the previous month, with a year-on-year growth of more than 5 percentage points. Large enterprises basically reached full production or relatively high historical level in April, and many enterprises could not receive orders. However, due to the meager profits in the industry, there was no desire to increase production. The production performance of medium and small enterprises varied, but overall, the copper rod industry had sufficient orders in April and exceeded the expected output (survey enterprises: 36, production capacity: 8.43 million tons).
According to the SMM survey, it is estimated that the operating rate of copper rod enterprises in May was 80.33%, down 2.96 percentage points from the previous month and 1.37 percentage points from the same period last year. Judging from the feedback of enterprise orders, the production in May can basically maintain the performance in April, but due to the decrease of enameled wire orders in May and the impact of foreign trade exports, the operating rate is expected to decrease slightly month on month. In addition, some large enterprises reported that because the concentrated rush production from late March to April was too full, the furnace would be shut down for workers to rest in May, which would also affect part of the production.
